Peter Wheeler joined Canterbury in 1994 as a halfback.
Peter was a regular member of the Under 21 team and captained the team in the Preliminary Final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1995, Peter started the season in reserve grade and received the opportunity to play first grade against Western Reds when Terry Lamb was injured. He became the 600th first grade player to play for the club. He was later relegated for Craig Polla Mounter and become a regular member of the reserve grade team.
In 1996, Peter started in reserve grade and played first grade mainly as a replacement early in the season. He completed the season in reserve grade.
