Biography Roy McCarter joined Canterbury in 1937 from South Newcastle.

A diminutive half back, Roy is considered one of the club's greatest halfbacks.

Strong for a small player, he was also fast and able to set up many attacking raids. He was also a capable goal kicker.

Roy played in the Premiership winning 1938 team and the 1939 winning City Cup team.

He also played in the 1940 final against Easts (Roosters) but was unlucky to be injured in the play off for first place against Balmain and missed playing with the 1942 Premiership winning team on Grand Final day.

Roy continued playing for another two seasons before retiring.

Roy passed away in November 1999.
