Biography Bob McCarthy played 217 games for South Sydney in two stints from 1963 to 1978 as a second row forward.

Bob was a member of the Premiership winning teams in 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971. Bob also played in the 1965 and 1969 Grand Finals.

Bob played 11 games for NSW from 1969 to 1973 and played 10 Tests for Australia between 1969 and 1974. Bob played in the 1970 and 1972 World Cups and was a member of the 1973 Kangaroos. He also toured New Zealand in 1969.

Bob joined Canterbury in 1976 and played the opening match against Balmain as captain of the team. Bob captained Canterbury in all 40 games that he played.

Bob broke John Peek's 1973 record for the most tries by a forward in first grade with 12 tries.
