Biography Col Geelan played 75 games for Newtown between 1948 and 1954 as a centre or five-eight.

In 1949, Col spent a season with Gunnedah before returning to Newtown. In 1950, he played for NSW against Great Britain before playing for Australia in 1951. Col played three games for NSW between 1950 and 1954. He played eight tests for Australia and played on the 1952-53 Kangaroo tour.

In 1954, Col captain-coached the Newtown team to the Grand Final against South Sydney and in 1955 he captain-coached the Rockhampton team before returning to Sydney in 1956 to play for Canterbury.

Col was appointed captain in 1956 and was appointed captain-coach for the 1957 season. Col is the father of Alan Geelan.
