Biography Nev Charlton joined Canterbury in 1947 as a lock forward.

The brother of Ken Charlton, Nev became a regular in reserve grade in 1948 and got the opportunity to play with his brother when Henry Porter did not play the last game of the season. Nev played second row on this day.

By the second half of the 1949 season, Nev had secured a second row position in first grade. Playing lock and second row, Nev was a regular in first grade for three seasons.

In 1953, Nev lost his first grade spot to Jack White but did play in the reserve grade semi-final against Manly.

Nev joined Western Suburbs in 1954, playing a total of 147 games from 1954 to 1961. He moved to the front row with Western Suburbs.
