Biography Alf Nixon joined Canterbury in 1944 as a winger in third grade. A long serving clubman, Alf developed into a reliable centre.

His debut in first grade was made possible by the injury to Jeff Simmonds.

In 1949, injury to Athol Halpin allowed Alf to gain regular selection in first grade.

A regular goal kicker, Alf held the record for the most points scored by a third grade player until broken by Dean Byrne in 2000.

Alf also held the record for the most points in a third grade season until broken by Tom Gillogly in 1973.
