Match Review:

The Sydney Roosters defeated the Canterbury Bulldogs 32-12 at the Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday to end their National Rugby League season on a high note.

The match was a replay of the 2004 grand final, but had no bearing on this year's finals series with both teams already out of contention.

But despite having little to play for, the Roosters came out firing and had virtually wrapped up the match at half-time.

The victory was a fitting way to send off veteran lock Luke Ricketson, who was playing his 301st and final NRL game.

Centre Ryan Cross gave the Roosters their first points of the match when he scored in the corner in the fifth minute.

Full-back Anthony Minichiello played a key role in the try, drawing a Canterbury defender before putting an unmarked Cross into space.

Craig Fitzgibbon was unsuccessful with the conversion and the score remained 4-0.

Amos Roberts ran 80 metres to score the home side's second try.

The Bulldogs had looked dangerous deep in the Roosters' half but a misdirected pass found the hands of Roberts, who enjoyed a clear run to the tryline.

Fitzgibbon added the extras to give the Roosters a 10-0 lead.

The Roosters pushed home their advantage when winger Sam Perrett scored the first try of his career in the 23rd minute.

Cross threw a one-handed pass to put Perrett into space, though the winger still had some work to do with two defenders in front of him.

Tries to Minichiello (45th minute) and second rower Michael Crocker (49th minute) in the opening stages of the second half all but sealed the win for the Roosters.

Ricketson grabbed some points in his final match with a penalty goal in the 50th minute, which extended the Roosters' lead to 26-0.

The Bulldogs finally found some points in the 57th minute when Corey Hughes crossed for a converted try.

Perrett crossed for his second and the home side's sixth with just nine minutes left on the clock, before the Bulldogs save some face with a try to replacement Dallas McIlwain at the death.
